Integrative Psychiatry

Learn to Break Free from Destructive Anger Patterns

Effective anger management starts with understanding what’s driving it. Our psychiatrists begin with a careful evaluation to identify contributing factors like stress, anxiety, mood, or attention challenges, then build a personalized plan to help improve emotional regulation and strengthen relationships over time.

When Small Triggers Lead to Big Reactions

Many people manage to hold it together all day, only to feel overwhelmed at home, where emotions often come out most strongly with the people closest to them. Or for parents, many watch their child go from calm to explosive before they can intervene.

Underneath the anger, whether an adult’s or a child’s, something deeper is driving it.  Unresolved tension and a frustration threshold worn further down than anyone realizes.

Our physicians focus on understanding what is driving the anger beneath the surface. Physician-led behavioral modification then explores why these patterns keep repeating in the first place, so we can change them.

What Changes When Anger Finally Feels Under Control

  • Anger intensity decreases enough to create space to pause, interrupt, and regain control.
  • Triggers get identified at the root level instead of addressing the surface events.
  • Your child’s meltdowns become shorter, less disruptive, and easier to recover from over time.
  • Verbal outbursts decrease, reducing the strain they place on relationships.
  • Relationships at home and work often become more stable as emotional reactions become more manageable.
  • Appointments become less frequent because of real, measurable behavioral change.

Our goal is to support lasting emotional stability through consistent, structured care. We focus on helping you build skills that carry into daily life, not just short-term relief in session.

How to Move From Anger Cycles Into Emotional Stability

Finding the Cause Before Treating the Behavior

Anger is often a secondary symptom, not the root issue itself. Our psychiatrists work to understand the underlying factors driving the pattern before making treatment recommendations.

Behavior Modification as the Primary Tool

We use structured, skills-based approaches to help you recognize triggers earlier and respond more effectively in real situations. The outcome is better anger management and emotional control.

Therapy That Builds Skills That Last

Cognitive behavioral therapy helps identify the thought patterns contributing to daily difficulties. ACT supports more flexible responses under stress. ART is used when unresolved trauma continues to affect emotional regulation.

What Our Patients Are Saying

Anger Management in Fort Worth, TX FAQs

Is anger management the same as psychiatric treatment for anger?

Psychiatric treatment is more in-depth than traditional anger management. It looks more closely at what may be contributing to an anger pattern, including PTSD, ADHD, bipolar disorder, chronic stress, medical factors, or longstanding behavioral patterns. Our psychiatrists may also incorporate approaches such as behavioral plans when clinically appropriate as part of a broader treatment plan.

Do I really need psychiatric help for anger, or can I handle this on my own?

Consistent change becomes more possible when the underlying factors behind anger are properly understood and addressed. With the right evaluation and support, many people begin to experience steadier emotional control and clearer day-to-day functioning.

Will I be put on medication?

No, medication is not automatically part of the plan and is rarely the starting point. We begin with a careful evaluation to understand what is contributing to the panic symptoms and what patterns are sustaining them. Treatment may include structured therapy, skill-building, lifestyle factors, and medication when clinically appropriate.

What if I have tried therapy or anger management before and it did not work?

When care looks at the underlying drivers of anger, including co-occurring factors like stress and trauma, change becomes more consistent and sustainable. With a thorough evaluation of behavioral cycles and the right support, many people begin to experience steadier emotional control, improved responses, and clearer day-to-day functioning.

Is anger in adults connected to other psychiatric conditions?

Often yes. Chronic anger in adults is frequently connected to self-harm, PTSD, bipolar disorder, ADHD, work stress, various addictions, or anxiety that hasn’t been properly evaluated. We take all of this into account for every evaluation and treatment plan.

My child has explosive outbursts. Where do I start?

Start with the contact form on this page. A member of our team will review your child’s situation and confirm we can help before scheduling. Your first appointment is a comprehensive behavioral evaluation with one of our skilled psychiatrists.

What does anger management usually involve?

Anger management therapy starts with understanding the root cause behind the anger problems, not just reacting to the outbursts themselves. In our Tarrant County based group practice, we start with an evaluation to identify conditions that can worsen anger (e.g., substance use, eating disorders, developmental disorders), then create individualized treatment plans that may include individual counseling, traditional talk therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing.  Along with practical coping strategies, your psychiatrist helps you respond better during stress, conflict, and major life transitions. Therapy sessions often focus on communication skills, decision-making, and self-awareness, to improve emotional regulation for those with anxiety disorders, mood disorders, social anxiety, relationship issues, ongoing family conflict or typical stress.

What is behavior modification, and how is it different from anger management?

Behavior modification is a structured, physician-led approach to identifying specific behavioral patterns and building the skills needed for stress management. It begins with a thorough evaluation of what is actually driving the behavior; for younger adults, career counseling and grief counseling are incorporated directly when those factors are part of the clinical picture.

Who benefits from anger management counseling?

Our counseling services support young adults, adults, couples, and family members who feel stuck in painful patterns affecting their well-being, relationships, or daily life. Some patients come in after repeated arguments with a loved one, while others are struggling with men’s issues, body image concerns, panic disorder, or difficult life changes that have made emotions harder to manage. We may offer individual therapy in-person, video counseling, peer support, or case management/coordination with an outside therapist depending on each person’s unique needs and long-term game plan.

Do you take insurance?

Since 2014, our practice has never accepted major insurance. We choose to center on our patients, not insurance companies. There’s no pressure to prescribe what is easiest to approve, no incentive to limit the scope of an evaluation. We provide documentation and tools, including Reimbursify, to help you recover a meaningful portion of fees through out-of-network benefits. The best care is often out of network.

How quickly can I be seen by a psychiatrist?

Typically, within 1 to 2 weeks. Most behavioral health and psychiatry practices in Fort Worth carry a 3-4 month wait for a first appointment. When a child is being suspended from school, or an adult is watching relationships break down, that is not a reasonable timeline. Reach out today; we’d love to help.

It’s Time to Release Anger for Good And Feel Calmer More Often
