The Truth About Finding a Good Psychiatrist in Texas
Across Texas, access to psychiatry is severely limited. A 2024 Texas Tribune analysis of federal data found 246 of 254 counties are classified as mental health professional shortage areas, and 170 have no licensed psychiatrists at all.
When psychiatric access is this uneven across Texas, difficulty in finding care can be rare. That’s why we make our psychiatry services more accessible:
- Six physicians who specialize in mental health across the lifespan
- Average appointment time is just 1-2 weeks out, which is months faster than others
- You get a clear, comprehensive evaluation before we create a treatment plan
- If we recommend medication, it’s at the lowest effective dose for the shortest time
Mindful exists to make quality psychiatric care easier to access across Texas. Patients are seen by Texas-licensed physicians with care guided by clinical need rather than insurance approvals.

How Psychiatry in Texas Should Actually Work
You are seen directly by a physician trained in psychiatric medicine, without nurse practitioners or physician assistants. This matters most when symptoms are complex and cannot be understood in a short, surface-level visit.
More time is spent early to establish a full clinical picture. Evaluation, explanation, and prescribing are done with context. Therapy approaches such as CBT and ACT are standard, with additional modalities used when clinically indicated.
Medication response can be influenced by physical health factors, including gut function and nutrition. These are assessed as part of the clinical picture rather than treated as separate concerns.
When indicated, medication is used at the lowest effective dose for the shortest needed time. The goal is improvement in symptoms while keeping you stable and still feeling like yourself.

What Our Patients Are Saying
Questions You May Ask Before Booking
How quickly can I get an appointment in Fort Worth or anywhere in Texas?
Most new patients are seen within one to two weeks. That’s intentional. Across Texas, psychiatry waitlists often stretch for months, and that delay rarely helps when symptoms are already affecting daily life. Once you reach out, our team moves quickly to get you scheduled and sets clear expectations before your first visit.
Do you offer telehealth psychiatry across Texas, and does it actually work?
Yes, we see patients through secure video across Texas, including Fort Worth, Dallas, Houston, Austin, and any areas in between. For most psychiatric conditions, telehealth is just as effective as in-person care when the evaluation is thorough and the psychiatrist remains consistent. Both are standard here.
Where are you located, and do I have to come in person?
Our office is at 312 W Leuda Street, Fort Worth, TX 76104. You can be seen in person if you’re local, or through secure video if that’s more practical for your situation. Many patients move between both over time, depending on what their lives require.
What mental health conditions do you treat?
We treat anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, autism, PTSD, ADHD, OCD, and a wide range of mood-related conditions. We also see patients who have already been through multiple providers without clear improvement and need a more complete clinical review. Every treatment plan begins with a full psychiatric evaluation.
Will I always see the same psychiatrist, or will I be passed around?
You will stay with your experienced psychiatrist. That continuity matters. Understanding symptoms, history, and patterns takes time, and that context gets lost when care rotates between providers. We keep that relationship stable so your care stays clear and connected.
Will I be put on medication right away?
No. The evaluation always comes first. Medication is only considered when it clearly fits the clinical picture. When it is part of care, it is used carefully at the lowest effective dose, for the shortest necessary duration, and with clear reasoning behind every decision. This approach is part of our individualized patient care, designed around your unique needs and long-term mental wellness.
What if I’ve already tried psychiatry and it didn’t help?
That’s something we see often. In those cases, we slow things down and look back through your full history, diagnoses, medications, and treatment attempts to understand what may not have been fully addressed. The goal is not to repeat what’s already been done, but to build a clearer clinical picture that better supports your mental wellness through thoughtful patient care aligned with your unique needs.
How do I know which psychiatric services fit my mental health concerns?
The first step is a full evaluation with a psychiatrist who takes time to understand your symptoms, medical history, individual needs, and previous treatment options. At Mindful, our Psychiatric Services are designed for a variety of mental health concerns, including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, treatment-resistant depression, and other mental health disorders. From there, your psychiatrist creates a personalized treatment plan that may include medication, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, lifestyle-informed support, or other forms of psychiatric treatment when clinically appropriate.
Can Mindful help if I’m worried about a loved one’s symptoms?
Yes. Many people contact our mental health clinic because they are concerned about a loved one, especially when symptoms begin affecting school, work, relationships, sleep, mood, or daily life. Mindful provides compassionate care for each individual patient, whether care happens through in-person visits in Fort Worth or secure video across Texas. Our Services can support patients with many mental disorders, including personality disorders, psychotic disorders, anxiety, depression, and complex mood concerns. We also explain treatment options, possible side effects, and next steps clearly, so families feel more informed and supported.
Is my information secure during telehealth visits?
Yes. All sessions are conducted through secure systems designed specifically for healthcare. Your information is HIPAA-protected and only shared with your consent.
What’s the fastest way to book an appointment?
You can request an appointment on this page if you scroll to the form (or click any button and it will take you there). Once submitted, our team reviews it and typically responds quickly to schedule within the next available one to two-week window. If you call, we will politely refer you back to the form, so please start there!
Do you accept insurance?
Since 2014, we’ve never taken insurance because we wanted your care to come first, not insurance company decisions. You pay us directly, but most plans will reimburse you as an out-of-network provider. We use Reimbursify so you know upfront exactly what your benefits cover.
