Why Folks in Fort Worth Are Looking for More Accessible Psychiatric Care

A Texas Tribune investigation found one Fort Worth clinic serving over 1,300 patients a month with only three licensed mental health professionals. Most North Texas counties are federally designated mental health shortage areas,  with many clinics already at full capacity.

For patients, that often looks like long waits, short visits, and limited explanation around treatment decisions.

  • Calls that go unanswered because new patients are no longer being accepted.
  • Brief appointments that can leave patients with unanswered questions about what they need.
  • Ongoing medication changes without clear communication about why.
  • Over time, it can become difficult to even know who is overseeing the full picture of care.Over time, it can become difficult to even know who is overseeing the full picture of care.

In contrast, Mindful has been located in Fort Worth since 2014. Patients are seen by the same physicians, with transparent pricing and typically scheduled within one to two weeks.

Three Steps. No Confusion. No Surprises.

What It Feels Like When Psychiatry Finally Gets It Right

  • You understand your diagnosis instead of feeling uncertain about it. You understand why a medication is being used or not used at all.
  • Your child’s treatment is thoughtful, measured, and carefully explained.
  • There is a plan in place, and that creates calm. You feel more informed, steadier, and more like yourself, not altered or numbed.
  • Over time, as things improve, appointments naturally become less frequent.

The approach stays intentional: fewer medications, lower doses, and the shortest appropriate duration, always with long-term independence in mind.

What Our Patients Are Saying

Questions You May Have Before Booking

Why is it so hard to find a psychiatrist accepting new patients in Fort Worth?

Most psychiatry practices in Fort Worth and across Texas are operating at full capacity, which pushes new patients onto waitlists that can stretch for months. The challenge is that mental health symptoms don’t pause while you wait, they often evolve or intensify. Getting seen within a short window can meaningfully change the direction of care, and that’s what we’ve built our system around.

How quickly can I get an appointment?

Most new patients are seen within one to two weeks. That timing matters more than it sounds. Earlier evaluation often means earlier clarity, which reduces the time spent struggling without direction. Our scheduling is intentionally structured so new patients are not left waiting in long queues.

How do I know who is actually making decisions about my care?

In many systems, care gets split across many different clinicians, which can make it hard to know who is truly responsible for your treatment plan. Here, you work with the same psychiatrist across visits. That continuity allows your history to stay intact and your care to be consistent over time.

Will I be started on medication right away?

No. Every patient begins with a full psychiatric evaluation first. Medication is only considered when it clearly fits the clinical picture. When it is used, the approach is conservative lowest effective dose, shortest necessary duration, and clear reasoning behind every decision.

Is online psychiatry as effective as in-person care?

For most psychiatric conditions, yes. Research supports it, and patients across Texas experience similar outcomes through secure video visits. What drives results is not the setting, but the quality of evaluation, consistency of care, and clinical experience behind decision-making.

While virtual is convenient, it’s hard to beat sharing a human moment face-to-face.

What conditions do you treat?

We treat a wide range of conditions including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, ADHD, OCD, and mood-related concerns. We also support complex or treatment-resistant cases where previous care hasn’t led to improvement. Every treatment plan is built from a full evaluation and shaped around the individual.

What makes Psychiatry at Mindful different?

Fort Worth Psychiatry at Mindful is built around high-quality, evidence-based care from board-certified psychiatrists who are medical doctors with years of experience. We support patients across Tarrant County with anxiety disorders, mood disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, Post-traumatic stress disorder, sleep disorders, panic attacks, attention deficit disorders, autism spectrum disorders, personality disorders, and major life transitions. Our treatment approach is thoughtful and personal, with attention to your unique needs, mental wellness, stress management, mood regulation, self-esteem, and overall mental health journey. Care may include psychiatric treatment, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Therapy, medication when appropriate, and a holistic approach in a supportive environment.

What mental health conditions do you treat?

Mindful supports children, teens, and adults with a wide range of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, sleep concerns, and autism-related emotional or behavioral challenges. Because mental health conditions can look different from person to person, your psychiatrist starts by understanding your history, symptoms, health needs, and daily life before recommending next steps. The goal of patient care is not just to name the diagnosis, but to help you understand what is happening and what kind of support may actually help.

Do you accept insurance?

Since 2014, we’ve never taken insurance because we wanted your care to come first, not insurance company decisions. You pay us directly, but most plans will reimburse you as an out-of-network provider. We use Reimbursify so you know upfront exactly what your benefits cover.

Local Psychiatry You Can Trust

Sometimes the biggest help is being truly understood by a local psychiatrist who lives in your community and knows what you’re facing. That clarity comes sooner than most expect. If you’re ready for that kind of steady support, this is where it begins.
